ROME BINDINGS

2018 – 2025

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Design and development of highbacks, buckles, EVA textures and size grading for all chassis. Primary 3D surfacer for all components (excluding straps), on snow testing, manufacturing QC, and packaging design were additional responsibilities I had.

TASK:
Design and develop industry-game-changing bindings that would be manufactured in parallel with Bataleon bindings.

GOALS:
Incrementally improve existing binding components and innovate new products within the binding line. Apply the Rome brand identity visual language to all components to differentiate the two brands.

RESULTS:
The Rome binding category has remained a success and is recognized as the best bindings in the industry by many pro riders, magazines and customers. The designs created have helped to influence continued design efforts in this category.

DESIGN WORK

Design Language
“Auxtech” triangle patterns, hex patterns and strategically designed bonelines were used as to represent the visual language of the Rome line of bindings. My role was to build the patterns and aesthetic into all parts that I created.

Binding Part Development
A number of components were designed to follow the brand identity of Rome. Buckle levers, straps and highbacks all followed the established language of the Rome brand.

Brand Identity Execution
Rome Snowboards builds it’s image on “being disruptive”. The goal was to work with the graphic design team at Rome to create iconic bindings that stand out on the shelf with high quality finishes, art and attitude. During this work, we explored a number of manufacturing techniques and experiments that were perfected and optimized. Anodized heel hoops, water decals and alternative painting techniques were perfected every year.
